Cox Communications has added Rhode Island to its list of DOCSIS 3.0 wideband deployments.
Cox’s “Ultimate Internet Tier” residential service features download speeds of up to 50 Mbps and upstream speeds of up to 5 Mbps. The standard price for the residential service is $144.99 per month.
"The technology powering Cox Ultimate Internet – DOCSIS 3.0 – is the pinnacle of Internet speed and reliability," said Doreen Studley, vice president of marketing for Cox Communications New England. "The advantages are significant for the millions of people sharing vast amounts of multimedia content everyday."
Cox said today that it plans to offer DOCSIS 3.0 speeds in more than two-thirds of its systems across the country by the end of 2010.
Cox is using DOCSIS 3.0 gear from Cisco, including Cisco’s uBR10012 cable modem termination system and the company’s DPC3000 cable modem. Comcast has also used DOCSIS 3.0-enabled products from Cisco in its DOCSIS 3.0 deployments.
Cox, the nation’s third-largest MSO, previously launched faster data speeds with DOCSIS 3.0 in Northern Virginia, Lafayette Parish, La., and in Fredericksburg and Fairfax County in Louisiana.
