Content security provider Verimatrix and HFCNet & IP-Net, a systems integrator and manufacturer for cable and IPTV operators, said today that they’ve completed integration in preparation for deployment of Mexico’s first advanced DVB-C/IP/DOCSIS hybrid network by Cablemás.

The enhanced digital cable service will feature broadcast digital television in standard-definition and high-definition, an on-demand library scalable to thousands of titles and interactive features such as time-shifted TV, digital music channels, Web radio, PCTV, TV Web browsing and social networking applications.

“Under the leadership of Cablemás CEO Carlos Alvarez, the operator opted for a hybrid network because it provides optimum flexibility to offer more tiered service packages with different price points, which is a clear advantage in this economic environment. In addition, the hybrid network approach facilitates the migration toward the all-IP network,” said Max Morales, president of HFCNet & IP-Net.

Cablemás deployed IP-Net’s IP-Net Vision, its comprehensive IPTV platform for triple- and quad-play operators. Through their reseller partnership, the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for DVB was integrated with IP-Net Vision to secure the delivery of entertainment services over any type of network.

Verimatrix said VCAS for DVB enables Cablemás to combine the new DVB-C network for broadcast distribution with the interactivity of an IPTV system using a single security solution with the same headend infrastructure.

Cablemás is the second-largest cable television operator in Mexico based on number of subscribers and homes reached.
