Canoe Ventures has hired Kathy Timko as chief operating officer of the company. Timko started her new job June 1 and reports to Canoe Ventures CEO David Verklin.

Timko has served in key management roles and board positions in both start-up and mature high-technology companies for the past 15 years. According to Canoe Ventures, Timko has spent her career managing and scaling organizations, building products and infrastructure, and expanding businesses to meet market needs.

For the past 10 years, she held a range of senior leadership roles at various business units within IDT Corp., a multinational holding company focused on the telecommunications and energy industries.

Most recently, Timko was the COO of carrier services at IDT, where she directed pricing, profit optimization, business metrics reporting and operations.  In 2006, she was named COO of IDT Telecom, where she oversaw the unit’s retail and wholesale businesses and was responsible for product management, technology, engineering and all operations.

During her tenure at IDT, Timko also served as CTO of IDT Telecom, executive vice president of technology at IDT Corp., and COO of the engineering and operations division. She started her career with IDT in 1998 as vice president of engineering and operations and was appointed to IDT Telecom’s board of directors in 2001.

Timko currently serves as an independent director on the board of Motionbox Inc., a company that provides Internet-based personal video sharing services.

“I am pleased to announce that Kathy is joining our team,” Verklin said. “Her successful career in managing and scaling high-tech organizations will serve us well during this critical time as we continue to expand our team, build our platform, and develop and deploy our first products.”

“I am eager to work with the team at Canoe Ventures during this exciting time for the industry,” Timko said. “As the country transitions to digital TV and advanced advertising deploys across cable’s footprint, our business opportunity grows every day. Our products and services are eagerly awaited, and I look forward to helping make them a reality.”

Canoe Ventures was founded last year by the nation’s top cable operators, including Bright House Networks, Cablevision, Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox Communications and Time Warner Cable. Based in New York City, the company is focused on creating advanced advertising platforms.
