Optimum Business rings up SIP trunking for small businesses
Cablevision today announced the availability of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) trunking from Optimum Business that was designed to deliver an enterprise-quality voice service to small businesses.
Cablevision said that the service was designed for customers who want to take full advantage of a small business IP PBX and avoid the cost of an analog gateway.
The Cisco SPA9000 Voice System and Microsoft Response Point have been certified compatible with Cablevision’s Optimum Voice service, and the combination will be available exclusively through Optimum Business third-party resellers, as well as through select Cisco and Microsoft resellers.

Optimum Voice SIP trunking includes Direct Inward Dial (DID) functionality on a converged voice and data network.
Other enterprise features in Optimum Voice SIP trunking include:
- Immediate ‘alternate call routing’ – Businesses are able to specify an alternate phone number in the event that an IP PBX or equipment problem is detected, and calls are automatically re-routed, ensuring business continuity.
- Capacity for 40 DID telephone numbers – Businesses who need up to 40 individual phone numbers are now supported with SIP trunking.
- No additional installation required – The SIP trunking service is activated at the time of installation by the reseller agent. No additional step is required. Through online management tools, business customers have the ability for instantaneous upgrade of service.
