On2 Technologies today announced that it has licensed its On2 VP6 Codec SDK to Mobixell Networks for use in the company's mobile multimedia processing and optimization platform.

The On2 codec SDK license enables Mobixell to convert VP6 videos from the Adobe Flash format to formats playable on a wide range of mobile devices.

On2 Technologies said its On2 VP6 video format is used in Web, mobile and high-definition-quality form by sites such as Hulu, Vimeo, Yahoo Video, Dailymotion,,,, Eurosport and others.

"Our solutions are increasingly maximizing the potential of mobile video in a way that delivers a seamless video experience for customers, and On2 VP6 is an ideal component of our video solutions," said J. Simon Darr, assistant vice president of marketing at Mobixell. "The growth of video in our Social Media Gateway and other advertising solutions creates a greater need for content that can be delivered to the widest number of handsets and network operators. There is a lot of VP6 Flash content in the world, and our customers can now make that content available to their subscribers."
