Ixia has completed its acquisition of Catapult Communications Corp. for approximately $105 million, or $63 million net of Catapult’s cash and investments.
The acquisition was first announced in May (story here).
Catapult’s wireless test systems deliver high-performance solutions for hundreds of protocols and variants, including Long Term Evolution, IMS, WiMAX, CDMA, VoIP, GPRS and GSM.
Ixia expects Catapult’s 3G and 4G wireless networking test solutions to complement its line of IP performance test systems and service verification platforms. With the combined lines, Ixia said, it will be able to provide a single-source solution for testing converged, multi-play IP services over wireless and wireline networks.
Catapult counts Alcatel-Lucent, Motorola, NEC, NTT DoCoMo, Nortel and Nokia Siemens Networks among its customers.
Earlier this month, Ixia announced a “company-wide restructuring initiative” – essentially layoffs and a plan to not extend its contracts with some of its contractors (story here). The company is letting go of 75 to 80 people, or about 10 percent of its workforce.
