BigBand Networks has deepened its relationship with China’s Jiangsu Cable after signing a deal that makes BigBand Jiangsu’s preferred digital video provider.
While BigBand had an existing relationship with Jiangsu Cable, which included the deployment of BigBand’s Broadband Multimedia-Service Router (BMR) in Jiangsu’s systems, the deal marked the first time that Jiangsu signed a strategic agreement with a foreign company.
Jiangsu Cable has approximately 11 million subscribers, making it one of the largest cable operators in China and the leading cable company in the Jiangsu province. Jiangsu is in the process of consolidating its existing networking onto a single network, while speeding up the pace of its digital migration in every city and county in the province.
“Jiangsu Cable had a very good relationship with BigBand prior to establishing Jiangsu Broadcasting Television Network Corp. in July of last year. Since then, our partnership has become more extensive,” said Gu Hande, general manager of Jiangsu Cable. “I hope that we will continue to deepen our mutual understanding and expand our partnership to a new level, working closely together to provide more valuable digital video networking services to our customers.”
Jiangsu Cable has embarked on an ambitious rollout of digital television. In September, BigBand announced that Jiangsu Cable had selected the company’s BMR to process and deliver digital television services, including high-definition and interactive television. BigBand’s BMR has been deployed in the provincial capital, Nanjing, and 11 cities and provides digital television services to millions of subscribers.
Jiangsu has access to BigBand Networks’ suite of digital video networking offerings, from broadcast to switched digital video (SDV) and IP to Media Services Platform (MSP), in order to help evolve its network from broadcast to personalized service delivery.
“This is an important strategic alliance for our company; it’s simply groundbreaking. We’re honored that Jiangsu Cable trusts us as their long-term strategic partner,” said Amir Bassan-Eskenazi, CEO, president and co-founder of BigBand Networks.
