Axerra helps MSO into backhaul
Axerra Networks said a Tier 1 U.S. MSO has started what the vendor called a “mass deployment” of its pseudo-wire backhaul products.
The unidentified MSO is using Axerra’s AXN products to offer its Mobile Network Operator (MNO) customers both legacy T1 and next-generation mobile backhaul services over its nationwide packet network.
Specifically, Axerra’s AXN Pseudo-Wire Access Devices are being deployed at cellular tower sites, and AXN Pseudo-Wire Gateways are being deployed at mobile switch center (MSC) sites. The end-to-end network is being managed using Axerra’s AXNVision Pseudo-wire network management suite.
Axerra’s solutions support all generations of mobile networks and RAN technologies, including GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSPA and the emerging Long Term Evolution standards.
The ever-increasing volume of backhaul traffic is a well-known bottleneck for wireless companies, and therefore a clear opportunity for anyone that can offload some of that traffic.
Reinhard Florin, general manager for Americas at Axerra Networks, said, “The MSO’s solution is flexible enough to meet today’s 2G and 3G transport legacy TDM requirements, yet provides for a rapid upgrade for future 4G protocol and bandwidth requirements when needed.”
