Cable modem termination system (CMTS) shipments in the first quarter were down, but not quite as much as digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM) shipments, in terms of percentages.

CMTS shipments were down 6 percent from the immediately preceding fourth quarter (and down 10 percent from the first quarter a year ago), while DSLAM shipments were down 10 percent sequentially (and down 11 percent from last year), according to Ovum.

In the CMTS market, North American shipments dropped to less than half of all shipments for the second time in the last six years, while all other markets grew in the single or double digits on a sequential basis.

Ovum credited Cisco with 59 percent of the market in terms of ports shipped, followed by Arris at 30 percent and Motorola at 10 percent.

Growth in China has helped local Huawei become the leading shipper of DSLAM equipment for the first time, though. It reported strong results in many of its markets.
