Juniper switch aimed at cloud computing
Juniper Networks has introduced a high-performance Ethernet switch aimed at cloud computing applications.
Juniper’s EX8216 Ethernet switch is a 16-slot platform with switch fabric capacity of up to 12.4 terabits, optimized for high-density 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) data center and cloud computing environments.
The new switch is a member of the vendor’s EX8200 line of modular switches. With a per-slot capacity of 320 Gbps and delivering up to 2 billion packets per second (pps) performance, the EX8200 line of switches offer a built-in migration path to 100 GbE, providing businesses with scalability.
German research organization Fraunhofer Gesellschaft is one of the first customers to deploy the EX8200 line of switches in its production network, Juniper said.
Separately, Danish telecom provider TDC is building a new IP/MPLS network incorporating core routers from Juniper Networks, the vendor reported.
TDC is using Juniper’s T1600 Core Router in a network that will carry all of TDC’s residential broadband and business multimedia traffic, as well as all of the data and voice traffic generated by TDC’s cable and mobile operator subsidiaries.
TDC said its existing network was not going to serve future needs. Jess Ibsen, executive vice president and CTO of TDC’s Fixed Nordic operations, said, “The alternative provided by Juniper’s T1600 improves efficiency, scale and performance, as well as increased 40 Gigabit capabilities.”
TDC currently has a 70 percent share of the Danish DSL market. It has a total customer base of 7.8 million across Denmark. The company is also growing its operations in Finland, Norway and Sweden with a range of business-based services.
Juniper’s T1600 delivers up to 1.6 Tbps of capacity (100 Gbps/slot), while delivering energy efficiency.
