AT&T has added six new high-definition channels from MTV Networks to its U-verse TV channel lineup.

U-verse TV customers now have access to MTV HD, VH1 HD, CMT HD, Nickelodeon HD, Comedy Central HD and Spike HD as part of their existing HD service subscription, depending on their programming package.

According to AT&T, with the new additions, the U-verse TV HD channel lineup continues to exceed the HD channel lineups offered by the major local cable providers in every U-verse TV market.

DirecTV is now offering local high-definition programming to customers in the Lafayette, Ind., designated market area.

The following broadcast networks will be available in HD: WLFI/CBS, WTHR/NBC, WXIN/FOX and WTTV/CW.

With the addition of Lafayette, DirecTV now offers local HD broadcast channels in 125 cities, representing more than 89 percent of U.S. TV households.

• Emulex tells shareholders to reject Broadcom offer

COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) – The board of network gear-maker Emulex Corp. recommended that its shareholders reject a tender offer of $9.25 per share, or $764 million, from chip-maker Broadcom Corp. (story here).

Emulex has already rejected a cash offer of the same amount, saying Broadcom is taking advantage of the company's depressed stock prices. Emulex shares have lost about half of their value since the beginning of the year.

On Friday, Emulex said the tender offer "significantly undervalues" the company's long-term prospects and is "grossly inadequate." A representative for Irvine, Calif.-based Broadcom could not immediately be reached for comment.
