Taiwan Broadband Communications (TBC) picked Grass Valley for a major migration to digital cable in one of the country’s largest video headend deployments.
TBC, which has over 700,000 subscribers, will also increase its service offerings and introduce HD video using a range of products from Grass Valley.
According to Grass Valley, TBC needed to optimize its digital network delivery capacity and offer a greater number of digital channels and services, while further improving picture quality for company’s customers.
TBC will be able to carry more channels on the same number of frequencies, introduce HD channels and provide digital advertising insertion for local commercials. The first services were deployed in March.
“We chose Grass Valley for this major migration due to a number of factors including the capability of the Grass Valley team to supply a turnkey system within a challenging time frame and also the efficiency and reliability of their products,” said Thomas Ee, CEO of TBC.
Ee said TBC is using Grass Valley’s Vibe encoders for better compression and picture quality on its SD and HD offerings.
