R.L. Drake has signed on as distributor of LG Electronics’ Pro: Idiom cable transcoders and digital rights management (DRM) technology. Through this relationship, Drake said it will integrate the transcoders into its own Drake Digital Hospitality Solutions, a customized line of products for the lodging and health care industries.

Drake Digital HD Hospitality Solutions are custom designed, secure, rack-based headends for each property incorporating LG’s Pro:Idiom Cable Transcoders, Drake’s Edge QAM Modulators and related technical components. 

“Pro:Idiom technology has spread like wildfire across the hospitality industry because it’s the only cost-effective digital solution that satisfies the security concerns of the entertainment industry while eliminating the need for set-top boxes in guest rooms,” said Jeff Huppertz, CEO of Drake. “Its DRM platform is so secure because it uses the Advanced Encryption Standard system of 128 bit key, which is relied upon for financial transactions and protecting government information.”

Pro:Idiom is embedded in the TV, which eliminates the need for set-top boxes in the room and prevents guests from tampering with components or pirating digital content.  The system works for both cable-delivered pay TV content and video-on-demand (VOD) services.
