Aurora intros 2 industry firsts: 8-wavelenght LcWDM, full RFPON platforms
Aurora Networks has introduced what it says is the industry’s first eight-wavelength LcWDM system, as well as the first single-fiber, end-to-end RFPON solution.
Aurora’s ‘O’-band WDM system enables MSOs to increase revenue-generating narrowcast capacity for services including HDTV, VoIP, VOD and high-speed data – without the need for major fiber construction.
The seventh and eighth wavelengths can be combined with Aurora’s passive components – including the company’s new series of OP93D LcWDM field-hardened demultiplexers – on a single fiber, from the existing node to a new node, allowing MSOs to drive fiber deeper into the network by subdividing their larger node service areas into eight separate service areas.
And according to Aurora, with the transport of the eight wavelengths in the 1310 nm window, operators can use CWDM and DWDM technologies to add another 12 or more wavelengths.
Aurora has also expanded its RFoG plus PON solution with the debut of the company’s single-fiber, end-to-end RFPON platform. Aurora’s new OR4168 Virtual Hub (VHub) module and CP8013U CPE – along with the company’s existing VHub, Node PON module and GEPON CPE – make up what Aurora says is the industry’s only full RFPON solution.
The RFPON platform enables operators to leverage existing and future fiber investments.
Designed to introduce PON into existing RFoG environments, or vice versa, the VHub OR4168 module enables ops to extend network reach from 10-20 km to more than 60 km by using a single fiber to provide a local service area concentration point for management of both downstream and upstream RFoG and PON wavelengths.
The CP8013U RFoG CPE supports triple-play service requirements for video, voice and data, including DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem traffic.
