FCC sets Connect America disbursements totalling $1.7B

The FCC has significantly increased the funding for the Connect America Fund (CAF) to $1.675 billion, all going to “price cap carriers” – all telephone companies. The fund disburses money to broadband providers to encourage them to extend service to consumers in unserved and underserved areas.

Virgin Media said it will be expanding its use of dynamic ad insertion in VOD, and expects to eventually bring its DAI platform to bear on linear content for ad replacement as well.

Bright House, TWC, Comcast, AT&T, and Verizon are offering free calls made directly to Nepal. The 2015 Nepal earthquake occurred on April 25th and was measured at 7.8.

CenturyLink closing in on a TV franchise in Minneapolis

CenturyLink has been approved by a Minneapolis City Council panel to begin providing pay TV service. CenturyLink has agreed to extend the service to at least 15 percent of the city within two years.

Report: FCC may nix Dish spectrum discounts

Comcast is making a package designed for people who want to subscribe to Comcast exclusively for its Xfinity Internet service available in Washington State. The MSO's Internet Plus 25 tier offers 25 Mbps internet. It comes with limited basic TV, HBO, and Streampix.

Time Warner Cable has added live TV channels to its TWC TV app running on Microsoft’s Xbox One console. TWC began offering the app on the Xbox One last month, starting with on-demand content.

Cablevision has become the first cable or satellite operator to offer Hulu subscriptions directly. The company has not yet released details on pricing or when the service will become available to Optimum customers.

A&T is boosting its TV Everywhere services by adding 41 live channels to its U-verse App. AT&T’s lineup has 236 channels available in the home and 173 that can be accessed outside of it.
