The Globe and Mail reports that Rogers Communications, Canada’s largest wireless provider, will name Nadir Mohamed, Rogers’ current COO, to the post of CEO.

The paper, citing an anonymous source, reported that the decision was finalized internally and could be made public in a week or two.

Ted Rogers, the company’s previous CEO, died in December (story here). Chairman Alan Horn has been serving as acting CEO ever since.

Mohamed has been on the short list of contenders for the position, along with Edward Rogers, the son of Ted Rogers who oversaw the company's cable operations.

The company is also said to be working on an arrangement that would give Edward Rogers a key title at the top of the company, striking a careful power balance between the two executives. Sources say it's possible the younger Rogers will be named to a position that would have oversight over strategic moves such as acquisitions.

That decision could be made by the annual meeting in May.

Mohamed, who oversaw much of Rogers’ wireless operations, and Edward Rogers, who headed the cable and business services divisions, were the two primary candidates for the CEO job.
