CableLabs hosts Tru2way Developer Conference
In order to spur continuing intereste and development of tru2way, CableLabs recently hosted a Tru2way Developers Conference in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The one-day conference was part of the larger CableLabs Technology Forum, which gave CableLabs’ member cable operators the opportunity to attend the event, as well.
“Bringing cable operators, consumer electronics vendors, content providers, application developers and other stakeholders together to hear the same message is important,” said So Vang, vice president of OpenCable at CableLabs. “The success of the tru2way initiative will depend on all of these forces working together, and CableLabs is committed to providing a forum for all parties to collaborate,” he added.
CableLabs said nearly 100 participants listened to tru2way deployment updates from cable operators and saw demonstrations from hardware vendors and application developers.
According to CableLabs, a significant milestone was witnessed first-hand at the conference: Comcast has deployed tru2way service in Colorado Springs by providing Panasonic with the opportunity to demonstrate its 42-inch widescreen Viera plasma HDTV using Comcast’s interactive tru2way electronic programming guide.
The event closed with a Developer Lab hosted by enableTV, a company that was selected through a competitive bidding process and specializes in tru2way and enhanced television (ETV) technology and professional services, including training for application developers.
In October, Panasonic and Comcast announced that Panasonic’s tru2way TVs were for sale in retail stores in Denver and Chicago (story here).
