The combined offering was designed to help cable operators more rapidly deploy tru2way and Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format (EBIF) applications, including advanced guides, targeted advertising and TV widgets.
PowerUp is Zodiac’s tru2way framework, a common platform of open APIs and libraries that allow for a broad range of applications to be developed and work together across multiple devices.
With ADB’s tru2way set-top boxes and software now integrating PowerUp, the two companies said cable operators can enrich their subscribers’ experience with a variety of new, interactive services, including local restaurant searching, click-to-call, games, photo-sharing, weather, traffic, sports scores, local news and more.
One of the advantages of tru2way for developers is being able to write an application once for deployment across multiple cable operators’ footprints. Developers can benefit from ADB and Zodiac’s integrated platform by being able to build their tru2way applications to the PowerUp framework specifications, without worrying about interoperability between any tru2way components already deployed by an operator.
The two companies will demonstrate the combined platform at The Cable Show ’09 next month in Washington, D.C.
