Corning profits up; outlook down

Sales of $1.9 billion were up 26 percent, after acquisition costs, and optical fiber volume grew by 25 percent, Corning reports.

CompTel, a communications industry association, issued a statement urging Congress to scrap the Internet Freedom and Broadband Deployment Act of 2001, aka the Tauzin-Dingell bill.
Alcatel bids on Lucent's optical unit

Alcatel Chairman Serge Tchuruk reportedly has said the company has bid for the division. "We are not commenting," Lucent spokeswoman Mary Ward told CEDaily, when asked if the company was taking bids.
Liberate launches two products

The toolset promises to speed application development and extends the power of the Liberate TV Producer authoring line to the basic digital set-top box environment, including Motorola's DCT-2000 boxes, Liberate reports.
