• Shaw goes with Moto’s i-CMTS approach

Motorola said that Canada’s Shaw Communications is not only using DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems for its accelerated broadband services, as CED reported two weeks ago (story here), but is also deploying Motorola’s DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem termination system (CMTS).

Shaw is using Motorola’s equipment in an integrated CMTS (i-CMTS) configuration, with the vendor’s BSR 64000 TX32 Decoupled Downstream Modules plugging directly into a BSR 64000 chassis.

With the TX32, Shaw may support continued Internet traffic growth via already-deployed DOCSIS 1.x and 2.0 technology while offering higher-bandwidth tiers to subscribers via DOCSIS 3.0 channel-bonding technology, Motorola said.

Motorola is selling Good Technology to Visto, a company that has a mobile push and synchronization platform for service providers.

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The parties intend to close the transaction by the end of February.

Good Technology specializes in offering wireless messaging, mobile VPN data access, device management and handheld security for enterprise customers worldwide.
