By Traci Patterson
AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets and DirecTV Inc. have debuted AT&T | DirecTV, a co-branded satellite service that will operate in the 22 states where AT&T operating companies offer wired residential broadband and voice services.
Customers can access AT&T | DirecTV programming packages as part of an AT&T service bundle, including quadruple-play bundles with TV, broadband, home phone and wireless services.
The two companies plan to extend their combined services in the future. By combining AT&T broadband and wireless assets with DirecTV's content, AT&T | DirecTV customers will be able to access programming across the three screens — the TV, PC and wireless devices.
• Verizon withdraws video franchise app in Wilmington
By Traci Patterson
Verizon has withdrawn its application for a cable franchise in Wilmington, Del. The telco submitted the application on Nov. 20.
"Verizon's proposal to bring competition for cable TV service to Wilmington residents is one that is fair and reasonable – with an aggressive commitment to make FiOS TV available to all city residents within five years; delivery and financial support of education and governmental channels; thorough and appropriate customer-service commitments and more,” said William R. Allan, president of Verizon Delaware.
"However, it has become obvious that – after months of negotiations and numerous concessions by Verizon – the parties could not agree on terms that would enable Verizon to compete effectively and serve customers in Wilmington – something we have been able to do successfully with more than 1,300 franchising authorities across the country,” Allan continued. “We regret having to withdraw our application. We value our Wilmington customers, and we were eager to bring them a competitive choice for their cable TV."
