• Dish says it’s 1st to offer 1080p content comparable to Blu-ray

Dish Network Corp. has laid claim to being the first pay-TV provider to offer a TV series – A&E Network’s new drama series “The Beast” – in 1080p resolution quality comparable to Blu-ray disc.
“The Beast” is now available to Dish subscribers via the satellite provider’s IP video-on-demand (IP-VOD) platform, in 1080p, the day after a new episode premieres. And Dish subscribers with an MPEG-4 high-definition (HD) DVR receiver, an HDTV that is 1080p compatible and a broadband connection will be able to access, download and watch the show.
In August, Dish Network laid claim to being the first video service provider for pay-TV to transmit all standard-definition (SD) and HD programming in MPEG-4 (story here).
• Streakwave, Vecima sign distribution agreement for VistaMax

Streakwave Wireless, a global distributor of wireless solutions, has signed a new distribution agreement with Vecima Networks, a supplier of WiMAX broadband solutions and other networking technologies.
Streakwave is the first U.S.-based distributor for Vecima primarily focused on the VistaMax family of solutions, the company said.
Streakwave will stock and distribute the Vecima line of WiMAX products from their two warehouses – located in San Jose, Calif., and Salt Lake City, Utah. Full systems – including the 3.5GHz, 3.65GHz and 5GHz base stations and subscriber units – are now available.
