• Univision, Comcast reach carriage agreement

Univision Communications Inc., which is among the largest Spanish-language media companies in the United States, and Comcast announced yesterday a multi-year agreement for carriage of Univision’s owned-and-operated broadcast stations and affiliated stations owned and operated by Entravision Communications Corp., Fisher Communications Inc. and Equity Media Holdings Corp.
The retransmission agreement includes distribution of the cable network, Galavisión, and, outside of station markets, the network feeds for Univision and TeleFutura.
Terms of the agreement, including whether Comcast was paying Univision to carry its stations, were not disclosed.
Yesterday, Time Warner Cable announced it had extended its retransmission agreement with CBS Corp. (story here).
• TiVo updates TiVo Search for HD

TiVo Inc. has unveiled a redesigned TiVo Search feature, which offers improved search results with a new high-definition design. The feature is available to TiVo users at no additional charge.

TiVo Search uses the extra screen size of HDTVs to show more details about a highlighted program. And the new interface not only displays in HD, it has a focus on finding HDTV content. TiVo Search will be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week in Las Vegas.
• Volicon names Sachs senior director of marketing

Volicon has appointed Andrew B. Sachs as senior director of marketing for the cable, IPTV and mobile video operator industry.
In his new role, Sachs will be responsible for developing the market for Volicon's Observer and Observer RPM solutions, which enable video operators to evaluate the quality of their broadcasts, VOD and interactive services, and advertising offerings at headends and remote locations.
Sachs has more than 18 years of experience in test and measurement solutions. Since 2005, he has served as service assurance solution owner in JDSU, where he was responsible for development and go-to-market strategies for the company's IPTV/digital video monitoring solutions for IPTV and cable operators in APAC, EMEA and the Americas. Other previous positions include director of workflow solutions and marketing for Acterna/JDSU, where he led the commercial launch of a hybrid portable OSS solution for field operations, and director of engineering in the network services division of Telecommunication Techniques Corporation (TTC).
• ViewCast releases Niagara 2100

ViewCast Corp. has released its Niagara 2100, a video-streaming appliance for video over IP and mobile networks.
