The FCC has wrought success for CableCards, sort of.

The top-10 MSOs have deployed 9.76 million devices with CableCards. Meanwhile, few consumers are actually asking for them, still.

The NCTA said the top-10 MSOs have shipped 392,000 CableCards in response to customer requests, meaning another 12,000 people have asked for them in the last six months, which is actually a bit of an increase in the number of consumer requests.

MSOs report fewer problems, but often as many as half of all problems continue to be sourced to the consumer electronics equipment, rather than in the cable card or in the network.
