AT&T said today that its U-verse video and high-speed Internet services are now available in Raleigh, N.C., and Orlando, Fla.
AT&T will compete against, among other service providers, Time Warner Cable in the Raleigh area and Bright House Networks in Orlando. Both markets also feature AT&T’s Total Home DVR, which lets subscribers start a movie or TV program in one room and resume watching in another room.
The various packages also include HD-ready equipment, while most packages have an HD-enabled DVR.
AT&T also announced today that it has launched a VoIP-based service to its customers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Telcos such as AT&T and Verizon have seen their landline businesses erode due to competing VoIP offerings from cable operators and other service providers.
By offering a VoIP service, AT&T hopes to win back customers who had dropped its landline service by including VoIP in its bundle of video, wireless and high-speed data.
Unlike some VoIP-only service providers that use the public Internet to deliver phone service, AT&T is using its own IP and fiber-based network.
