Canoe Ventures made its first staffing announcement this morning, which included the news that Vicki Lins and Michael Davis have been added to its executive team.
Lins, who spent most of this year wearing two hats as the marketing and communications lead for Canoe Ventures while also working as Comcast Spotlight’s senior vice president, marketing and communications, was named as Canoe Ventures’ chief marketing officer.
“I'll be transitioning through year-end,” Lins said via e-mail to CED. “As CMO at Canoe, I will be overseeing all the marketing and communications functions - brand, strategy, public relations, corporate communications, client relations/sales support, etc.”
Lins will report to Canoe Ventures CEO David Verklin, who started work in the Manhattan headquarters on June 4.
While at Comcast Spotlight, Lins oversaw the re-branding of the division and led marketing initiatives to promote the use of spot cable’s multi-platform marketing solutions among local, regional and national advertisers.
Lins has received numerous awards for her work. This year, Women in Cable & Telecommunications (WICT) recognized Lins with a WICT Accolade award, naming her a “Woman to Watch.” Prior to joining Comcast in 2002, Lins was Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications at Adlink, the Los Angeles Interconnect.
Davis was hired as Canoe Ventures’ general counsel. Before joining Canoe Ventures, here served as in-house counsel for CableLabs where he was responsible for providing legal and business counseling on a number of development projects including advanced advertising, Go2Broadband and tru2Way, as well as on digital output, recording, copy protection and digital rights management technologies.
Prior to working at CableLabs, he negotiated software licensing agreements for Lucent Technologies, and directed procurement, supply chain and various international and domestic product development activities for EchoStar Communications Corporation.
Today’s announcement also included Arthur Orduña, formerly Senior Vice President of Product and Policy for Advance/Newhouse Communications, the owner of Bright House Networks, being hired as Canoe Ventures’ CTO, but that news was reported in August (see story here).
“I am excited to begin building my team with Michael (Davis), Vicki (Lins) and Arthur (Orduña) in key leadership positions,” Verklin said. “Their expertise in legal, marketing and technology issues will be a valuable asset to this company as we guide the industry into the future of television, changing the way consumers view it and advertisers use it.”
Canoe Ventures is a joint venture among Bright House Networks, Time Warner Cable, Comcast, Cox Communications, Charter Communications and Cablevision that seeks to create a nationwide platform for addressable, or targeted, advertising, which will in turn stem the flow of advertising dollars to the Internet.
