Verizon receives video franchises in Mass., Ore.

Residents of Middleton, Mass., and Gresham, Ore., will soon have access to Verizon’s FiOS TV service, thanks to newly approved agreements authorizing the telco to offer its video service in the communities.

The approved video franchise in Middleton makes 85 the total number of Massachusetts communities where Verizon's FiOS TV is, or will soon be, available.

The vote in Gresham makes 20 the total number of Oregon communities that have approved video franchises for Verizon.

DirecTV adds 115th local HD market

DirecTV is now offering local HD programming to customers in 115 markets, thanks to the launch of HD local channels in Des Moines-Ames, Iowa; El Paso, Texas; Fort Wayne, Ind.; La Crosse-Eau Claire, Wis.; Peoria-Bloomington and Rockford, Ill.

DirecTV now offers access to local HD broadcast channels to more than 87 percent of U.S. TV households.

DirecTV has said that it will provide local HD broadcast channels in more than 121 cities, in 88 percent of the nation’s households, by the end of the year.

Frontier, Dish Network renew partnership

Frontier Communications and Dish Network have renewed their alliance, allowing Frontier to continue to offer Dish’s digital satellite TV service to consumers and businesses in the 24 states where it offers services.

Frontier's Connections Premium bundle offers Frontier customers access to the more than 120 HD channels that Dish Network offers.

Frontier is the second-largest rural local exchange company in the country. It provides telephony, video, Internet and wireless Internet bundles.
