One key to the success of any new access network is the availability of devices that can connect to it.

The Xohm network, which only just touched down in Baltimore (story here), already has several portable computers with WiMAX connectivity built in, with more to come.

Intel, one of the movers and shakers behind WiMAX technology, has built WiMAX support into its Centrino 2 processors. Laptops and notebooks utilizing this function now, or that have promised to be available within the week, include the Asus M50Vm, two ThinkPad models from Lenovo (SL300 and SL500), and two Aspire models from Acer (6930 and 4930).

Other computer makers expecting to introduce WiMAX-supporting products include Toshiba, Dell, Panasonic, Samsung and Sony.

After Baltimore, the next few cities Sprint expects to roll out Xohm in include Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth and Chicago.
