Sprint to sell IP-based converged services to biz customers

Sprint said it has formed a wireline business unit to sell IP-based converged services to business customers.

One trend in business communications is for companies to converge business applications (voice, video and data) to a common, flexible IP core that supports real-time, any-to-any access to people and information. That takes time and planning, however, and the new Sprint organization plans to help customers with the transition.

Another trend is the integration of wireless and wireline access methods, and Sprint expects to be able to help there, as well.

Sprint said it now supports significantly more customer ports on IP-based solutions than on legacy data services. The new business group was formed to continue to exploit that transition.

The company claims that at the end of the second quarter of 2008, Sprint outpaced the market with a 42 percent year-over-year growth in IP services, or three to four times the U.S. market rate growth in IP services.

Sprint said that its managed services include IP-based WAN; Compass, a Web-based, self-service tool that provides customers a consolidated, real-time view of network performance; and Sprint Secure Message Protection, a managed security solution.
