Navteq said it has become the new provider for Verizon’s FiOS traffic widget that provides local traffic information on subscribers’ TV screens.

With Navteq, subscribers of Verizon’s FiOS TV service can pull up widgets on their TV screens for instant displays of automatically updated traffic in their areas.

“We are expanding our relationship with Verizon and enhancing the innovative platforms with which they reach their customers," said Jeff Mize, executive vice president of Navteq. "This fast and convenient one-touch access to our real-time traffic information will help FiOS TV customers plan the best routes before they leave the house, potentially saving them time, gas and aggravation."

Financial terms of the deal were not announced.

Chicago-based Navteq is a provider of digital map data for location-based offerings and vehicle navigation.
