Broadcom bows next-gen SoC for TV makers
Broadcom Corp. announced today its next generation of digital television (DTV) system-on-a-chip (SoC) offerings that were designed to bring more functionality and features to DTV designs.
Featuring expandable entry-level to high-end design capabilities, the new SoC products, which are called BCM3548 and BCM3549, enable TV manufacturers to enhance the DTV from a commodity display device to a highly differentiated, connected entertainment system, according to Broadcom.
Included in each of these single-chip products are multi-format decoder, Ethernet network connectivity, a 3D graphical user interface and unique 3D color management, all of which continue to position the TV as the central entertainment appliance for the digital home.
The Broadcom BCM3548 and BCM3549 single-chip DTV offerings leverage the advanced design of Broadcom’s BCM3556 DTV offering, which includes support for digital video broadcast (DVB)-based platforms to address European and Asian markets.
