Riverstone Networks Inc. has unveiled a new tunneling technology designed to enhance legacy Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) metro networks with Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) capabilities. LSI Logic Corp. said it has inked a joint development deal with iVAST to create silicon capable of encoding, publishing and decoding content based on low-bit-rate MPEG-4 technology. Falling victim to a slowdown in telecom spending, lost e-business and competitive pricing pressures, WorldCom Inc.'s year-over-year profit sank in the first quarter. Including results from its MCI Group, WorldCom earnings dipped from $594 million a year ago to $130 million.
