Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Harmonic will have a host of demonstrations at next month’s IBC 2008 in Amsterdam, including MPEG-4 encoding and distributed statistical multiplexing.

Harmonic's range of products includes video stream processing, edge and access systems, and software for the video delivery chain, from content creation and ingest to distribution and delivery.

"The demand for video – including broadcast and on-demand TV programming, over-the-top and user-generated content – continues to grow at a fast pace, and consumers are seeking to be able to view more content on more devices,” said Tom Lattie, director of broadcast and new media solutions for Harmonic. “Harmonic is focused on developing best-in-class solutions that flexibly meet our customers' video delivery requirements for today and the future, and at IBC we will introduce new products and feature a wide range of solutions that enable a more personalized, converged video experience."

Featured demonstrations will include:

  • Comprehensive products for the creation and delivery of high-quality, real-time and on-demand video to a variety of devices (TV, PC, personal media players, cars and mobile phones)
  • Full frame rate 1080p MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) high-definition (HD) encoding (50 frames per second)
  • Distributed statistical multiplexing, featuring mixed codec pools of SD/HD channels in various resolutions
  • Content creation, distribution and delivery for on-demand services
  • A universal edgeQAM offering for video-on-demand (VOD), modular cable modem termination systems (M-CMTS), IP cable, switched digital video (SDV), broadcast and edge encryption applications.

Taking place in Amsterdam from September 12-16, IBC is among the largest television industry events in Europe and is attended by broadcast, cable, satellite, telco and other service providers from around the world.
