• Verizon’s FiOS services expand in N.Y., Md.
By Traci Patterson
Verizon’s FiOS TV service will soon be available to residents of the Long Island village of Amityville and the Putnam County town of Kent, thanks to newly approved agreements authorizing the telco to offer its video service in the New York communities. The new agreements make 126 the total number of New York municipalities that have approved video franchises for Verizon.
Additionally, more than 700,000 homes and businesses in five Maryland counties now have access to Verizon’s FiOS services. Verizon currently offers FiOS Internet and FiOS TV services to dozens of communities in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George's counties, and the company continues to upgrade its network to all fiber in these areas.
Verizon said that it is placing its all-fiber network in Charles and Harford counties, and the company is negotiating cable franchises with these two counties that would authorize it to offer FiOS TV to residents.
