A group of Z-Wave Alliance companies intend to make it easier for MSOs to start offering basic home automation to their subscribers. The four companies will be at the Cable Show with an integrated home security solution.

The Z-Wave Alliance is a consortium of 160 companies involved in home control systems.

The demonstration includes wireless door locks; IP cameras from Panasonic; lighting and appliance controls from GE/Jasco; a white-label mobile phone user interface (UI) from Crayon Interface; and a white-label PC/TV/touch panel UI and a devices/services management platform from 4HomeMedia.

The SMA (security-monitoring-automation) service demo will be part of the CableNET booth.

“Personalized security and connected home control via a whole-home user-interface – available on the TV, PC, mobile phone, and touch panels – are increasingly of interest to consumers.  What we’re giving MSOs is a simple way to monetize this end-user demand with SMA services and the associated starter kit of devices,” said Mark Walters, Chairman of the Z-Wave Alliance. “Consumers will be able to monitor and manage their home environment both in the home and remotely over their broadband cable modem connection from their mobile phone or a browser interface.”
