Velocix has announced the availability of two digital delivery services – the free Velocix Accelerator package and the company’s Accelerator Pro offering.

The new, free service is aimed at the growing community of entrepreneurs and new startup ventures, as well as larger organizations looking to distribute rich media such as video, music, games and software online, the company said.

The free service includes a 500GB-per-month delivery allowance for file download, video progressive streaming and Web site acceleration services. According to a Velocix spokesperson, 500GB translates into 50,000 video views, 250,000 MP3s or 10 million Web pages.

Current users of the free service include Craze Productions, Fifzine and Uploaded.TV, a next-generation social network where users can buy airtime on TV.

“Velocix Accelerator is already helping the brightest and most innovative get their online rich media offerings off the ground,” said Phill Robinson, CEO of Velocix. “With our help, these new ventures are able to offer high-performance, rich media Web site destinations to their growing audiences around the world, for free. Velocix is committed to disrupting the traditional CDN marketplace with breakthrough delivery performance, economics and control. Our Velocix Accelerator service exceeds this commitment in every respect and turns the CDN sector on its head.”

If a client surpasses the 500GB-per-month delivery allowance, Velocix offers the company its Accelerated Pro service for a fixed fee of $1,000 per month, said CMO John Dillon. Velocix Accelerator Pro provides an expansion path for business ventures that exceed the traffic threshold of the free service, or that need more sophisticated delivery services such as Flash streaming or hybrid-peer-to-peer (P2P) download.

The Velocix Accelerator Pro service comes with a 1.5TB monthly traffic allowance and additional advanced delivery options, including on-demand video streaming (in Flash or Windows Media formats), “multi-source delivery” for optimized delivery of large digital assets and P2P-assisted delivery options. Also included is full access to the Velocix Asset Control Portal for advanced digital asset management and reporting.

“Our new Velocix Accelerator and Velocix Accelerator Pro services provide stepping stones for startups, entrepreneurs and emerging new media businesses that introduce them to the benefits and advantages of high performance global digital delivery services,” said Phill Robinson, CEO of Velocix. “These entry-level services remove barriers and put these emerging companies on an even footing with their larger and more-established competitors.”

According to Dillon, Velocix’s technology is aimed at those companies looking to share large assets online, such as video, especially high-definition (HD) video. And the company has built a newly architected content delivery network (CDN) to address that need.

In May or June, the company expects to announce a collaborative solution with Internet Service Providers (ISPs). CDN’s are dependent on ISPs, Dillon said, and Velocix is working with ISPs on a technical and commercial solution to overcome this problem. The company just signed a contract with a major ISP in the U.S., marking Velocix’s biggest commercial win thus far.

Both Velocix Accelerator and Velocix Accelerator Pro are currently available in closed beta. Click here to apply to take part in the program.
