Apple has been named the 2008 Grand Award winner as part of the fifth-annual American Brand Excellence Awards, sponsored by City Business Journals Network (CBJN), and Verizon has taken the top spot in the telecommunications category.
Apple was also the overall winner of the technology category.
This marks the third consecutive year that Verizon has secured the top brand ranking in the telecom category. AT&T ranked fourth, and Cablevision and Comcast finished seventh and eleventh, respectively.
Godfrey Phillips, VP of marketing for CBJN, said: "Of all the 200-plus brands we've measured, Verizon is the one brand with the most loyal customers. Verizon has been identified by these small businesses as a company that is easy for them to do business with."
Verizon received the American Brand Excellence Award on Wednesday at the SMB Insights luncheon.
The winners were chosen by more than 1,700 business owners and managers of small- and mid-size firms that participated in CBJN’s annual proprietary study, which measures the brands that best meet the needs of their businesses.
