Akimbo unveils turnkey VOD offering for Web sites
Earlier this week, Akimbo took the wraps off of its turnkey video-on-demand (VOD) software offering that is designed for Web video content providers’ Web sites.
The Akimbo offering has a comprehensive advertising system and supports multiple business models, including ad-supported, transactional, subscription, download-to-own, download-to-burn, pay-per-minute, gift cards and account credits.
MavTV is the first content provider out of the blocks to use Akimbo’s new technology.
"Akimbo is unique in its deep understanding of the quickly evolving Internet video business," said Rob Stevens, co-founder and VP of programming at MavTV. "With Akimbo, we were able to launch quickly, integrate easily with our existing Web site and offer our viewers a high-quality, flexible VOD experience. Akimbo's solution also didn't require investing significant resources and relying on multiple technology partners."
Last year, Akimbo quit selling its VOD set-top box (STB) to focus on delivering VOD content via the Internet to Web sites. In order to support its new technology, Akimbo secured financing, led by investors including Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and Zone Ventures.
