The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that Sprint Nextel is looking to lay off several thousand employees.

In January 2007, Sprint said it was laying off 5,000 full-time employees, but those layoffs have been completed.

Also last year, Sprint suspended the rollout of its Pivot wireless service that it provides via its joint venture (JV) with five cable companies.

Sprint, the country’s third-largest wireless provider, has also been struggling against telco rivals AT&T and Verizon.
