Harmonic announced today that its Rhozet Carbon Coder video transcoding equipment has been selected by Pharos, a broadcast process management provider, for integration with the Mediator v3 media management system.

The combination of the Pharos Mediator and the Rhozet Carbon Coder products has been deployed by international broadcaster ViaSat. Pharos selected Carbon Coder to improve the digital workflow by integrating previously disparate broadcast and IT technology systems.

Carbon Coder is used directly within the Mediator workflow to increase efficiency in the production of content for ViaSat Broadcasting's TV channels, which reach 100 million customers across 24 European countries.

The workflow improvements include enabling the migration from legacy file formats, desktop HD spot-checking and quality control, and digital file sharing with third-party post-production facilities that provide remote voice-over and subtitle services.

"ViaSat Broadcasting processes as much as 200 hours of new content each day and broadcasts the content in 15 different languages, which requires a very efficient workflow,” said Russell Grute of Pharos. “ViaSat also produces promotional campaigns and trailers for all their channels. Rhozet Carbon Coder is used as a high-performance core component of the Mediator system to enable very high throughput."
