Juniper Networks has introduced a new line of Ethernet switches, the EX series.
The announcement comes on the heels of a similar announcement from Cisco, which recently introduced its new line of Ethernet switches (story here), underlining the trends toward more efficiency and flexibility in corporate IT.
Juniper says its EX-series switches provide scalable port densities and high availability features that consolidate legacy switch layers, helping to reduce capital and operational expenses. The EX-series switches are aimed at campus, data center and remote office environments and feature many of the same carrier-class hardware and software architectures found in Juniper’s core routers.
The EX 4200 series Ethernet switches with Virtual-Chassis technology deliver Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 10 GbE port densities as traditional chassis-based switches, but with one-eighth of the footprint and less than one-third of the cost, the company claims.
The EX 3200 series switches are fixed-configuration Ethernet platforms offering a simple, cost-effective, standalone solution for low-density regional and corporate office deployments providing 10/100/1000BASE-T connectivity.
The modular EX 8200 series Terabit Ethernet switches will deliver a high-performance, highly scalable solution for high-density 10 GbE enterprise core and aggregation deployments. Juniper will offer two EX 8200 series switches – an eight-slot 1.6 Terabit Chassis and a 16-slot 3.2 terabit Chassis.
