Vecima Networks Inc.’s VistaMax portfolio of base stations and customer premises equipment (CPE) has been selected by Cybersurf Corp., Canada’s largest independent Internet service provider (ISP), for deployment.

The first phase of commercial deployment will hit Edmonton, Alberta. And in addition to utilizing Vecima’s hardware, Cybersurf will also lease Vecima-owned licensed spectrum. Vecima and its subsidiary, YourLink, own spectrum in the 3.5 GHz and 2.3 GHz bands across Canada.

As part of the agreement, Cybersurf will have an option to acquire a portion of Vecima's 3.5 GHz spectrum.

“The option would ensure that Cybersurf is able to control the ‘last-mile’,” said Marcel Mercia, COO of Cybersurf.

Vecima recently announced its fully deployable commercial WiMAX solutions and has shipped WiMAX-compliant gear for trial deployments worldwide. The company is now delivering WiMAX systems for mass market adoption.
