Cablevision drops its brief arguing against DVR decision
Fri, 06/01/2007 - 8:22am
Cablevision Systems filed a 77-page brief with an appeals court, in which it argued almost every point in a recent court decision the company lost, forcing it to suspend its DVR service based on network storage.
A number of film studios and TV networks sued Cablevision, claiming the MSO’s service violated copyright laws.
The lower court judge ruled that because Cablevision controlled the storage servers, it was in fact responsible for everything stored there. Cablevision’s response is that if that argument was taken to its logical extreme, then even currently legal systems, such as e-mail, could be found to violate copyright.
