Verizon pens letter to FCC on restricting network access

Verizon sought to clarify its intention to explore commercial arrangements that restrict network access. Verizon submitted a filing aimed at correcting comments FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler made on the matter. Verizon's letter took issue with Wheeler’s alleged misunderstanding of “commercial arrangements.”

Yahoo targets mobile as primary path

Yahoo is on a path to generate a significant portion of its revenue from mobile. Yahoo Senior Vice President Adam Cahan on Thursday told Bloomberg Television that mobile advertising is set to fuel its new businesses and in turn generate half of the company's total revenue in the next 12 to 18 months.

After making its national debut on Monday, Sling TV has sweetened its cord-cutting streaming service by offering deals on Roku and Amazon streaming sticks and devices. By aligning itself with Roku and Amazon, Sling TV has strengthened its appeal for cord-cutters who are looking to unbundle their video services from traditional pay-TV providers.

CEO David DeWalt of Silicon Valley cybersecurity firm FireEye refers to his digital investigators as "cyber SEALs" — as in Navy SEALs, not the cuddly sea mammals. When big corporations like Sony Pictures, JPMorgan Chase, Target or Anthem suffered malicious hacks and data breaches that threatened their operations and reputations, they called in FireEye.

Cisco beats Street 2Q forecasts

By partnering with BestBuy, Time Warner Cable is providing an online retail route for users of its IntelligentHome monitoring and automation service. The deal with BestBuy allows IntelligentHome users to buy “smart” door locks, light bulbs and in-wall light switches that they can then self-install via a touchscreen.

Cablevision has signed off on the renewal of its long-term distribution agreement with Discovery Communications. The new multi-platform deal covered Discovery’s suite of 13 U.S. networks as well as TV Everywhere rights for authenticated Cablevision subscribers.
