Heritage Minister Bev Oda won't consider a financial proposal by Quebecor Inc. to replace its contributions to the Canadian Television Fund until it resumes payments of its dues to the fund.
Oda said yesterday she's written cable company Videotron, a Quebecor subsidiary, and Shaw Communications to ask for payment of millions of dollars in monthly fees to the TV fund.
On Monday, Quebecor CEO Pierre Karl Peladeau proposed its Videotron subsidiary put $109 million over three years, including $30 million in 2007, into funding for Canadian production as a replacement for its contribution to the fund.
Both Shaw and Videotron have said they won't pay their monthly contributions in protest of how the fund operates. The fund was set up in 1996 to support homegrown programs.
