Texas Instruments and Intellon Corp. are collaborating on a gateway reference design that will leverage the emerging HomePlug AV standard.

By delivering throughputs of upwards of 200 Mbps, HomePlug AV is the powerline-based, home networking competitor to other advanced technologies such as the Multimedia over Coax Alliance and HomePNA, which just issued the specs on version 3.1, promising theoretical data rates as high as 320 Mbps.

Under the latest arrangement, Intellon will chip in its HomePlug AV-based INT6000 powerline ICs with TI's UR8 platforms for the residential gateway market. The resulting design will target connectivity over all ADSL and VDSL2 standards, the companies said.

The first reference designs are expected to emerge in the first quarter of 2007.
