Volicon, a maker of digital video monitoring systems, has tapped Mega Hertz as its exclusive value added reselling partner for the U.S. cable industry.

"Volicon's expertise and knowledge in signal analysis, acquisition, alerting, recording, archiving, and streaming of real-time applications will certainly strengthen our portfolio," said Mega Hertz Director of Business Development Guy Levassar.

Volicon's flagship is the Observer RPM (Remote Program Manager), a platform that enables operators to monitor the quality of broadcasts in central and remote headends or hub site facilities. The company says the system can scan as many as 500 video channels continuously to verify the presence of video and audio, and to detect faults.

Interestingly, one of Volicon's emerging competitors comes from the consumer electronics space. Several operators are enlisting strings of Sling Media Slingboxes to monitor broadcasts remotely. Volicon's system, however, has an integrated recording function among its features, above and beyond what a Slingbox can provide for monitoring functions.

Time Warner Cable is among the cable operators to deploy the Volicon's Observer RPM.
