Synacor, a packager of premium broadband content for a range of high-speed Internet service providers, has closed a $17 million "C" round of financing led by North Atlantic Capital.

Synacor, which has deals with Charter Communications, Cox Communications, Knology, EarthLink, Armstrong Cable, SusCom and RCN Corp., among others, said it will use the funds to expand its library of premium fare and to extend its reach outside North America.

The company's flagship product, Portelus, enables Internet service providers to offer a range of premium content for one price, and to do so without having to secure a raft of separate distribution deals. Some of Synacor's content partners include AP Digital, CinemaNow, F-Secure, MLB.com, Snapfish and Zinio.
