Sam Pemberton, the president & CEO of interactive television (iTV) specialist Softel-USA, has been promoted to Group CEO of Softel Group, which, in addition to Softel-USA, consists of Aston Broadcast and Softel Limited.

Aston Broadcast markets and sells high-end character generators, including real-time 3-D systems. Softel Limited, meanwhile, was originally formed to provide Teletext systems, which initially were deployed in the early 1980s.

Softel-USA, founded in 2001, provides transmission systems for vChip parental control and the creation and playout for closed captioning, subtitling and audio description. In 2004, the company entered the iTV arena with MediaSphere, a playout system for interactive data and content for cable, satellite, digital terrestrial and IPTV service providers. So far, the company has licensed its iTV carousel products to four of the top six U.S. MSOs.
