Gemstar-TV Guide International has reorganized, combining its TV Guide On-Screen and TV Guide Interactive operations under the direction of Tom Carson. The new unit was named the North American TV Guide IPG (Interactive Program Guide) business.
The On-Screen operation focused on IPGs incorporated directly in digital TV sets, DVRs, and other consumer products in North America, while the Interactive operation was dedicated to IPGs used by cable and satellite companies. The company said it simply made more sense to combine its two IPG divisions than to keep managing them separately.
Carson joined the company earlier this year as president of TV Guide On-Screen. He joined TV Guide from Thomson, where he had served in a wide-range of executive positions.
Separately, Panasonic renewed its license to incorporate the Gemstar-TV Guide G-Guide IPG technology into its digital televisions and DVRs in Japan.
